China’s embassy reiterates its ‘One China’ policy

Dear Editor,

The Chinese Embassy would like to raise its serious concern to the Stabroek News for publishing an article written by Abe Shinzo on April 15, which reflects a vicious attempt to instigate confrontation between major countries. There is but one China in the World and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Taiwan question is entirely China’s internal affairs. The one-China principle is an internationally recognized basic norm governing international relations. The Taiwan question and the Ukraine issue are different in nature and are not comparable at all. We hope the SN could speak and act with extra prudence on the Taiwan question and avoid sending any wrong signal to “Taiwan independence” forces.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the People’s Republic of China and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the foundation of the one-China principle. The Embassy expects the Stabroek News to shoulder its social responsibility and adhere to the one-China principle when selecting articles for publishing. Attached is the related content of the Regular Press Conference of China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian on April 15. We suggest the SN publish them to show its objective position on this matter.

Regards,

Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana
