Kumaka Waterfront man dies after Easter Day stabbing

A 44-year-old man of Kumaka Waterfront, North West District, died on Monday night after he was stabbed during an Easter Day celebration at Mabaruma Settlement Ground. The suspect has since been apprehended by the police.

The deceased has been identified as Sherwin Smith.

According to a police report, during an Easter Day outing, the suspect approached Smith with a knife in his hand and dealt him two stabs about his body.

A policeman who was on duty at the eastern gate of the Mabaruma Settlement Ground witnessed the incident and immediately arrested the suspect, relieving him of the weapon.

Following the attack, the victim was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was immediately taken into the Emergency Unit. However, Smith succumbed to his injuries about 8pm on Monday.

Investigators who visited the hospital noted that the deceased was stabbed to the left side of his abdomen and to his neck.

His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
