Crane businessman robbed of 12 gold chains

A Crane, West Coast Demerara (WCD) businessman was robbed of $1.5 million in gold jewellery on Friday night and the police have since arrested two of the three suspects.

The attack took place around 20.30h at Riddim Flow Chill Spot, located at Crane Housing Scheme, WCD, during which Ren Persaud, 30, was relieved of 12 gold chains.

Persaud owns and operates the business, which is situated in the lower flat of his house.

According to a police report, investigations revealed that Persaud was playing pool in the shop when he was approached by the suspects, two of whom were armed with handguns.

The bandits held Persaud at gunpoint and relieved him of the gold chains he was wearing at the time.

They then reportedly discharged two rounds in the air before making good their escape in a waiting car.

Police yesterday confirmed that two of the suspects, a 22-year-old taxi driver of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and a 37-year-old D’Urban Street, Georgetown resident, were apprehended.

They are scheduled to appear in court early this week.

The car in which the men made good their escape, PZZ 3371, was later found abandoned at Barber Shop Street, Crane, WCD, the police added.

A search is ongoing for the third suspect.
