An unbeaten century from national wicketkeeper/batsman, Tevin Imlach propelled Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to a 154-run lead over Guyana National Industrial Cooperation (GNIC) on the first day of the Georgetown Cricket Association/GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament yesterday.

The reigning champions DCC, playing at home closed the day on 206 for three after 39 overs, in response to GNIC’s first innings total of 52 for nine in 21 overs.

Imlach smashed four sixes and 11 fours during his unbeaten 102 from 109 balls. His innings showed his maturity as he waited for the loose deliveries to put away, favouring the off-side and straight areas.

The 25-year-old Imlach added 69 runs for the first wicket with Jaden Campbell who made 16 from 37 balls before being trapped leg before wicket to off-spinner, Premchand Sookdeo.

Sookdeo ended with 2-43 after he removed Brandon Jaikaran, who was caught at extra cover for 20 from 44 balls.

Earlier, Barnwell rocked the order with his medium pace to return 3-9 as GNIC’s innings lasted little over an hour after rain forced the match to begin at 13.00 hours. Barnwell was supported by former West Indies under-15 captain, Sachin Singh with 2-11 and Ricardo Percival with 2-13.

GNIC’s captain, David Dick was the only batsman to reach double figures with 12 from 22 balls, laced with two boundaries.

The contest resumes today at 09.30 hours.
