DCC wins twice

Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) recorded a pair of commanding wins over GNIC and Third Class in the ongoing Guyana Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) 40-overs-a-side tournament.

A seven wicket win compliments of some good all-round performances from a few of Guyana’s national U15 and 17 players saw DCC outplaying their opponents who made 157 all out in 34 overs with G. Maniram (14) the principal scorer. National U17 spinner Sagar Hetheramani bagged 3-27 from eight overs while dynamic all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford used his pace to end with 3-20.

In reply, DCC cruised to 158 for 3 in 28.2 overs thanks to knocks from national youth batsmen Raymond Perez (60), Tevin Imlach (24) and Rutherford’s 24. Bowling for 3rd Class, Maniram returned to pick up 2-30 while A. Castella picked up 1-28.

The second win, this time against GNIC, saw the DCC XI chasing their target of 175 made by their opponents after Imlach (78) and Perez (42), continued their good batting form which took their side to 178 for 4 in 31 overs, despite Ryan Shun’s 2-26.

Earlier, GNIC got to their total after knocks from Shun (30), K Lovell (28) and J Grovenor (37). Rutherford again flexed his muscles with the ball, bagging 4-31 from eight overs for DCC and found support from the veteran Dennis Squires who snared 3-22 with his spin.

The action continues this weekend.
