Killers of Hill Foot farmer, Matthews Ridge miner to be sentenced

On May 9th, Leonard Fredericks and Keimo Corbin will be sentenced for killing two men in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

They were both originally indicted for murder, but pleaded to the lesser offence of manslaughter at their arraignment yesterday afternoon.

Fredericks admitted that he unlawfully killed sixty-five-year-old miner Peter James on December 30th, 2015; while Corbin admitted to killing Soesdyke Hill Foot farmer Anthony Breedy, between March 12th and 14th, 2016.

Justice Jo-Ann Barlow has deferred sentencing for both offenders, to May 9th, pending the presentation of probation and other social reports.

Fredericks is being represented by defence attorney Teriq Mohammed, while Corbin is being represented by attorney Ravindra Mohabir.

The State meanwhile, is being represented Prosecutor Latifah Elliot.

James, formerly of Matthews Ridge, North West District, was stabbed about his body during an argument with Fredericks in a liquor bar.

Investigators had said that Fredericks had related that the act was the result of an old altercation.

Stabroek News had previously reported that a source close to the investigation had said that Fredericks told investigators that some two months prior to the incident, James had dealt him a blow to his head with a piece of wood and on the day of the killing they were at a shop consuming alcohol together when he remembered the incident and armed himself with two knives before fatally stabbing the man.

Police had reported one of the weapons used in the attack being found in Fredericks’ possession at the time of his arrest.

Meanwhile, in Corbin’s case, he is one of three men who had been committed to stand trial for Breedy’s murder.

Breedy was found dead in the bottom flat of his Lot 67 Hill Foot, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway home. His hands and feet were bound and his head was bashed in. A piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was found at the scene.

A post-mortem examination performed on his remains revealed that he died as a result of asphyxia due to manual strangulation compounded by multiple blunt trauma to the head.

Police had said that the men were all found with a number of Breedy’s belongings in their possession.
