Marijuana found on Lusignan Prison inmate, 18

At around 10.30  am on Sunday at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara, an 18-year-old inmate was found with 92 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) hidden in his underwear, the police said in a release yesterday.

The inmate, who is from Albouystown, is serving a sentence for robbery under arms.

Enquiries disclosed that on the date and time mentioned above, the teenage inmate was labouring in the prison farm, when a Prison Training Instructor (PTI) observed the said prisoner/inmate acting in a suspicious manner.

As a result, the PTI conducted a search on the prisoner where two brownish plastic parcels were found in the inmate’s underwear.

Commander for Regional Division 4’C’, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram said the Police were summoned and the said parcels handed over to a rank. The parcel was checked in the presence of the inmate and the PTI where a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was seen.

The cannabis was weighed and amounted to 92 grammes.

When told of the allegation, the release said that the inmate admitted to same and was cautioned.
