Green Machine win three matches on second day

After losing their initial Group B clashes versus Curaçao and Jamaica 5-21 and 0-34 on Saturday, the ‘Green Machine’ transformed into robot mode and was undefeated in their remaining matches.

The national men’s rugby  team bounced back from losing their first two games to finish on a positive note, winning their final three match ups in this year’s Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s Qualifiers which was staged during the weekend in The Bahamas.

After losing their initial Group B clashes versus Curaçao and Jamaica 5-21 and 0-34 on Saturday, the ‘Green Machine’ transformed into robot mode and was undefeated in their remaining matches.

The local ruggers mauled the British Virgin Islands (BVI) 34-10 then followed up with wins against Turks and Caicos Islands (36-5) and Belize (27-0). 

However, their heroics were not sufficient to achieve their ultimate goal, to clinch Commonwealth Games and World Cup berths.

The event was a qualifier for the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa in September while members of the British Commonwealth were also playing for places at the 2022 Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England in July.

The men and women’s champions as well as runners-up qualified for the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup. The top-placed men’s team from the British Commonwealth qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. That team joined the pre-qualified Canada in Birmingham.

The Canadian men and women’s teams were the winners of the event while Jamaica (men) and Mexico (female) were the runners up.
