Guyana’s medal hopes now rest on boxer Travis Inverary

Guyana’s hopes of earning a medal at the ongoing South American Youth Games in Argentina now rest on the shoulders of boxer, Travis Inverary, after Matthew Beharry’s exit yesterday.

Beharry lost his badminton match 11-21, 12-21, in the best-of-three against Mateo Jara of Argentina.

Inverary, fighting in the 57-63kg class, will spring into action today at 14:00hrs. He is scheduled to face Brazil’s Hebert Bandeira in the quarterfinal bout.

 In the first wave of the event, Guyana was represented in the disciplines of basketball, table tennis, and swimming. All the athletes however, failed to get into the medal rounds of the development meet.

Note: Fifteen athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 have represented Guyana in five disciplines during the third edition of the Games which will conclude on May 8.
