Boxers, badminton player, athletes swing into action today

The athletes and coaches from boxing and badminton who are competing in the second wave of the South American Youth Games arrived safely in Argentina and have started going about their tasks in relation to their respective sports disciplines.

This is according to a Chef-de-Mission of the sojourn, Nalini McKoy.

According to McKoy, the technical meetings for two disciplines were conducted yesterday while the athletes will spring into action today.

Badminton starts at 09.00hrs with player Matthew Beharry scheduled to compete in the boys singles during the morning session while boxer Travis Inverary, competing in the 63kg weight division, will  lace up his gloves during the second session which commences at 14:00hrs.

Sebert Blake (boxing) and Jonathan Mangra (badminton) are the coaches for the pair.

In the first wave of the event, Guyana was represented in the disciplines of basketball, table tennis and swimming. All the athletes failed to get into the medal rounds of the development meet.

Fifteen athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 would have represented Guyana in five disciplines during the third edition of the Games which will conclude on May 8.
