Drayton topples Meusa to remain perfect after four rounds

Anthony Drayton FIDE rating 1950, defeated Wendell Meusa FIDE rating 1998 in round four to stay unbeaten in the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) Open qualifying tournament for the national championships at the Providence National Stadium.

Drayton leads the points’ standings with four wins from as many matches after defeating Ethan Lee in round one, Rashad Hussain in round two and Roberto Neto in round three.

Meusa had defeated Frankie Farley, Justino De Silva and Loris Nathoo in the first three rounds to set the stage for his top-of-the-table clash with nemesis Drayton.

While Drayton is in sole possession of the lead, Meusa shares the second position with Neto and Lee who are all on three points while Loris Nathoo and Rai Sharma are on two-and-one-half points.

Three players Hussain, Farley and veteran Stabroek News’ columnist Errol Tiwari are on two points and four players, Mayas Khan, Justino De Silva, Godfrey Taylor and Ethan Persaud are on one point each.

Jelani Benthick is yet to get off the mark.

The Tournament Director is Irshad Mohamed, the Chief Arbiter is John Lee and the Arbiter is Anand Raghunauth.
