Corentyne man found guilty of manslaughter

A Corentyne man was yesterday found not guilty of murder but  guilty of manslaughter following a trial before Justice Simone Morris–Ramlall at the High Court in Berbice. He will return to court on June, 7 to be sentenced.

Samuel Stewart was charged with the murder of Patrick Wilson Raynol, 25, of Lot 5 Limlair Village, Corentyne, who had sustained one stab wound in the region of his chest on June 16, 2019.

This newspaper had previously reported that Wilson, his brother and a cousin were imbibing at a rumshop in the village, when the accused allegedly walked in and an argument ensued between the men.

Stewart reportedly accused Wilson’s cousin of “talking he name” around the village, which led to a physical altercation between the two. Wilson allegedly then picked up a piece of wood and assaulted the accused after which the accused allegedly whipped out a knife and stabbed Wilson in his chest.

At this point, the owner of the rumshop intervened and ordered the men to leave his shop immediately. However, Wilson while on his way home collapsed on the road.

Stewart was represented by Attorney at Law, Charlyn Artiga
