Guyana Ex Athletes and Friends, AAG to host annual independence road races

More than 140 entrants have signed up for the Guyana Ex Athletes and Friends Inc annual independence road races, which are littered with attractive prizes and cash incentives.

According to reports, almost 150 athletes have registered to compete in the mile, the 5k and the 10k events which will conclude at Eve Leary ground on Sunday.

The mile event will cater for athletes in the U-9 and U-12 categories. While the 5k and 10k are open events. Burgette Williams-Forde, president of the body, stated that the first 12 young athletes will be awarded with incentives.

Bicycles and tablets will be rewarded for the first junior male and female athlete while the first male and female senior athlete will take home flat-screen television sets along with $55,000 each 

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) will aid the event by offering technical support. The AAG is imploring spectators to abide by the rules and not infringe on the race route.

AAG President, Aubrey Hutson stated, “I think, together, we were able to put together what we deemed to be a very great race coming Sunday. We know we have the experience. Please encourage the fans and athletes, somebody, to come out and witness a properly-organised and executed event.”

The association will be offering support to the Guyana Veteran’s Association by donating medical supplies.
