With regards to the recent consultation in between the Government and the Main Opposition, kudos to all those who made the consultation possible. It is unfortunate that a breakdown in relationship between the Government and the Opposition occurred before anything really substantive happened. We are NOT amused at the antics of politicians across the political divide whom are intent on scoring cheap political points. Clearly, there is still a lack of TRUST in between the PPP and the PNCR. Moving forwards, we need to do an analysis on where and why this distrust is occurring.
I suspect that the distrust is partly about past real or perceived grievances. This is why I had suggested in previous letters that Bharrat Jagdeo needs to take a step back, a step away, from politics so that President Irfaan Ali can chart a way, his own way, forward. We’re about to enter the phase now where the PPP/C Government will be determined to push ahead with its agenda and the PNCR will be determined to derail the PPP/C Government agenda. There is a different path that can be followed as opposed to the acrimonious relationship in between the Government and the Opposition.
