Rosignol woman critical after being stabbed by ex

A young Rosignol woman is now hospitalised in a critical condition after she was stabbed multiple times yesterday morning in an attack carried out by her former partner.

The attack on Maria Singh, also known as ‘Nalo’, 21, a cook, of Lot 3 Bennett Dam, Rosignol West Bank Berbice, occurred while she was seated in a hire car, where she was a passenger.

Her assailant, Adrian Anthony Persaud, 26, a cane cutter of Lot 4 Bennett Dam Rosignol West Bank Berbice, then reportedly proceeded home, where he attempted to end his own life. He was later found by investigators, who rushed him to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was admitted also in a critical condition.

Singh is presently hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Sunday Stabroek was told that the woman sustained two stab wound to the right side of her chest, one to her lower thigh, one to her right arm and one just below her knee.

This newspaper was told that Singh and Persaud were living home together for about a year and a half. However, the woman decided to leave the relationship just over one week ago.

Around 08:15 hrs on Saturday, Singh was a passenger in a hire car which visited the Sheriff Service Station, located at Lot 12 Rosignol, to buy gas when Persaud was noticed approaching the vehicle with a knife in hand.

After arriving next to the car, the man began to stab the woman, who was seated in the front passenger seat, after which he quickly made good his escape.

Singh was rushed to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, which subsequently transferred her to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police were immediately informed of the attack and rushed to Persaud’s residence, where he was found lying in the front yard after having thrown up.
