Rosignol man who stabbed ex-partner succumbs

A Rosignol man who stabbed his ex-partner multiple times on Saturday morning while she was a passenger in a hire car, died yesterday morning after having consumed a poisonous substance.

The accused, Adrian Anthony Persaud, 26, a cane cutter of Lot 4 Bennet Dam Rosignol, West Bank Berbice was hospitalized at the Fort Wellington Hospital after police discovered him in his yard vomiting a greenish substance shortly after the attack on Saturday.

A white bottle suspected to have contained a poisonous substance was found about 30 feet away from him.

Commander of Region Five, Kurleigh Simon, yesterday confirmed that the man died about thirty minutes after midnight on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Maria Singh also known as ‘Nalo’, 21, a cook, of Lot 3 Bennet Dam, Rosignol West Bank Berbice remains hospitalized at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in a critical condition.

Stabroek News was told that the woman sustained stab wounds on various parts of her body.

According to information gathered, Singh and Persaud were living home together for about one year and a half. However, the woman decided to leave the relationship over one week ago due to domestic issues.

On Saturday morning around 8.15, Singh was a passenger in a motor car which visited the Sheriff Service Station located at Lot 12 Rosignol to buy gas when Persaud was noticed approaching the vehicle with a knife. The man then began to stab the woman who was seated in the front passenger seat, after which he escaped.

Singh was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where she was subsequently transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
