Garbage piling up in parts of city as Sandip not collecting

Sandip Waste Management Services for the past week has been experiencing difficulties with its garbage collection trucks and this has resulted in rubbish piling up in certain parts of the municipality.

Sandip is responsible for the collection of garbage within the following areas: Campbellville Housing Scheme and section L-M Campbell-ville on Mondays, while on Tuesdays they are responsible for Belvoir Court, Prashad Nagar, Bel Air Promenade, New Haven, Bel-Air village, Blygezeight, North Sophia, Liliendaal, Turkeyen, Atlantic Ville, Pattensen, University Gardens and Cummings Lodge.

A Sandip spokesperson told Stabroek News yesterday that due to the recent heavy rainfall the Lusignan Landfill Site is in a deplorable condition and when the trucks go there to dump garbage they experience various problems. Trucks have experienced punctured tires, damaged springs and other problems causing them to be out of operation.

One Sandip truck is said to be in service and the last routine pick up was done on the 23rd May. The company said that it is working hard to resolve the issues so that things can go back to normal as soon as possible. No date was given.

City Hall has said nothing on what steps it will take as a result of the problems being experienced by Sandip.
