The Guyanese cricket fraternity at home and in the diaspora is saddened by the passing of former national player, Lloyd Cornelius.

According to former national player Mark Harper, Cornelius, who hails from Pomeroon Region # 2, passed away some three weeks ago in the United States of America.

Cornelius, who played for the then British Guiana Cricket Club, which was later renamed Guyana Sports Club, made his first-class debut for Guyana against Barbados at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground,  Bourda, in February 1967.

He took his first five-wicket haul in a losing cause against the Leeward Islands at Warner Park, St. Kitts in February 1969. In his next match against Jamaica at Sabina Park, he took 5 for 67. The following year 1970, the off-spinner took his career best 6 for 56 against the Combined Islands at GCC, Bourda. He played his last first-class match for Guyana against the touring Indians at GCC, Bourda in 1971 and he finished his first-class career with 50 wickets from 15 matches. (Charwayne Walker)
