Army ranks robbed at knifepoint at Kitty seawall

A female Corporal and a Private from the Guyana Defence Force were held at knifepoint and robbed of their valuables on Wednesday while sitting on the Kitty, Georgetown, seawall.

In a brief statement, police reported that the ranks, a 39-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old, were sitting on the seawall in the vicinity of the Kitty Pump Station when they were pounced upon by two males.

One of the bandits pointed a knife at the victims and demanded that they hand over their valuables.

The female victim, in fear for her life, made a dash for safety, leaving her bag behind, which is valued at $4,500 and a cellular phone valued at $25,000. The male victim was relieved of $19,000 cash.

The attackers collected the items and made good their escape.

Several persons from the area were questioned but investigators were unable to garner any valuable information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Investigations are continuing.
