Bartender charged with knifing woman to death in East R’veldt attack

Shamirika Gibson, who allegedly stabbed and killed mother of two Carol Davidson in an attack carried out with three other persons, was charged with murder and remanded to prison on Friday.

Gibson, 20, a bartender of North East La Penitence Squatting Area, was arraigned before Magistrate Faith McGusty in Georgetown, where the charge was read to her.

Gibson was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was then remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned until June 21, 2022.

Police initially said that the fatal stabbing occurred on June 6, at about 10:25 hrs at the East Ruimveldt Squatting Area by four persons, including Gibson.

Davidson, 23, who was a security guard, had an old misunderstanding the previous day with the quartet – three women and a man – which led to the fatal altercation.

The police, in a statement, said that enquiries had disclosed that woman was drinking in a yard with a group of friends when the perpetrators entered the premises and began to attack her with several pieces of wood.

A scuffle then ensued and the suspects dealt the woman several lashes about her body.

Davidson managed to escape by running around a house but she was eventually captured by her assailants.

Gibson was allegedly later seen with a knife in her right hand when she and her three accomplices made good their escape.

Davidson was found lying face down on the ground and a suspected stab wound was also seen around her chest area.

She was immediately picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The four suspects, including Gibson, were later apprehended by the police and were all placed into custody. It is unclear why no charge was brought against either of Gibson’s accomplices.
