Cariah, McSween hit fifties, practice match ends in draw

The touring Bangladesh cricket team and Cricket West Indies’ President’s  XI played to a draw in the lone warm up match before the Test series against West Indies gets underway.

The final day’s action at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua, saw the President’s XI resuming on 201 for four, still 109 runs behind Bangladesh’s first innings total, declaring on 359 for eight from 108 overs.

The visitors then closed the day on 41 for one after 20 overs.

Jeremy Solozano added nine to his overnight total before he was out leg before wicket to Mustafizur Rahman while for 92 from 218 balls. He struck 11 boundaries and shared in a 66-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Yannic Cariah.

Cariah, who is captaining the side, stroked one six and four fours during his 119-ball 56 before he was dismissed by Rahman who accounted for Jeremiah Louis two balls later.

Preston McSween showed his ability with the bat and chalked up an unbeaten half century from 62 balls. His innings was highlighted by one six and eight fours.

Colin Archibald chipped in with 40 from 44 balls after striking six fours and two sixes while Jomel Warrican ended not out on 21 from 28 balls, highlighted by three boundaries.

Rahman ended with 3-34 while Ebadot Hossain returned 3-67.

In Bangladesh’s second innings, Mehidy Hasan was not out on 32 from 51 balls while Mahmudul Husain was unbeaten on nine from 53 balls. Mominul Haque was run out by Tevin Imlach for four.

The earlier stages of the match saw good performances by Tamim Iqbal (162 not out) and Najmul Hossain (54 not out) of Bangladesh and the President’s XI’s Tagenarine Chanderpaul (59 not out).

The first Test will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, from Thursday to Monday while the second Test will run from June 24 to 28 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium, St. Lucia.
