GuySuCo took back all my money

Dear Editor,

On April 11th, 2022, I started my new job at the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. After attending the interview and successfully making it through the so-called evaluation stage, I was granted a position at the organization’s training centre in Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice. On April 22nd, 2022, I was forced to resign with immediate effect because of an emergency beyond my control, and as a result of my resignation, I only worked for two weeks instead of a month. When the time came around the clock for me to earn whatever salary I worked for, the said organization paid me a smaller amount than what they promised but as a very contented individual, I chose not to inquire about it but to simply accept what I was given – even though money has a higher value in today’s era since cost of living skyrockets every now and then.

However, I was surprised when I checked my bank account balance and saw that they [GuySuCo] had taken back all the money exactly four days after they made the payment. Take into consideration that I was not informed nor called to be notified of such transaction request/refund. Anyways, I remained calm for two whole months (May and June) to give them [GuySuCo] time, in case they made a mistake or something of the sort. But little did I know, they had spitefully refunded everything because I didn’t “give them a month notice” before I resigned. Now, think, HOW do you fit “a month notice” into two weeks? I contacted the company’s H.R. Department in Berbice to inquire about the issue and the secretary’s  hostile attitude proved that they are nothing but unethical and unprofessional wannabee superiors.

After I was approached with such manner, I decided to summon the attention of someone or anyone in the Upper-Administration Team of the company, and eventually, I spoke to Mr. Dexter Williams. I reported the situation to him and as usual, a simple “usual” apology was given and he specified that I was supposed to be paid for the time which I worked for – which is common sense to the maximum and wouldn’t require you to have a Rocket Science Degree to know. Until now, I am awaiting a fruitful correspondence from him or any of the staff at that level. I demand a formal, written apology and my payment for the two weeks that I served the company. It is very unfair for people to be at a company’s gates at 7:00 a.m. and return home after 4:00 p.m. every day for two weeks and not get a cent in return. Come on, right is right and wrong is wrong.

I am very hurt to know that I had to serve this company for two weeks when I could have been doing something else with my time or spending time with my family. Editor, GuySuCo is very unfair. They must get it fixed or I will be forced to take further actions from here onward.

Sincerely,
