Bodies of cousins found after Pomeroon River collision

The bodies of two cousins, 29-year-old Devor Naughton and 18-year-old Sherwin Adolphus of Hackney, Pomeroon River, Region Two were recovered yesterday morning after they went missing on Sunday afternoon.

Naughton and Adolphus were feared drowned after their boat collided with a fisherman’s craft in the river. Naughton’s mother, Suzette Naughton, said yesterday that her son and cousin were heading home when the crash occurred. The mother said that based on information the boat engine took in a “coconut husk” and they lost control of the boat.  The incident occurred around 5 pm and the bodies were recovered around 11:30 am yesterday.

“My son is a gold miner… they are very quiet boys. I can’t believe they’re dead… this is hard on the family” the mother cried. Adolphus’s mother, Oslim Marcus, described her son as a gem. She said that the boat and everything that was inside was recovered.

“It is hard right now, they were very close and they always used to be together, the boys were good… my son had one child,” Marcus said. Naughton is a father of two.

Up to when this report was taken, the police had not yet visited the scene although relatives said they made three reports to the Charity Police Station. The relatives of the two deceased organized private search parties, and after recovery, the bodies were taken to the Charity Mortuary and are now awaiting post mortem examinations.
