Several citizens yesterday staged a protest in front of the Office of the President demanding that Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo resign in light of concerns raised by a recent VICE News feature, titled ‘Guyana for Sale.’

APNU+AFC parliamentarians Sherod Duncan and Christopher Jones were among those on the protest line. Duncan said, “All of the things that are symptomatic of the PPP government they are back here with us and we ain’t taking it. We are not going to sit down on this for 23 years we are not taking it. He must go.” He added, “…the people demand an explanation as it regards the statement Vice President Jagdeo made by saying ‘Su handles all of the arrangements and Su has all the support and he works on the government side.’”

Jones stated that potential investors researching Guyana would potentially find that this country is for sale and that the Vice President is allegedly involved in corrupt practices.

In the programme, businessman Su Zhirong, who is a tenant of Jagdeo and lived next door to him in Pradoville 2, took a VICE News undercover `businessman’ to meet the Vice President.

According to VICE News, the act was done to prove to the undercover potential Chinese businessman that “he (Su) has access at the highest level”.

However, Jagdeo has since contended that the show did not give full insight into the meeting, as when Su called it was to ask if he [Su] could bring over the investor and potential partner that he was entering into an investment agreement with.

Jagdeo said that during the meeting that the businessman stated that he wanted to invest in projects in Guyana and wanted to discuss those but Jagdeo said he made it clear that he [Jagdeo] did not want to.
