A Bush Lot, Corentyne man is now dead after he was stabbed in the neck by his neighbour yesterday afternoon.

Dead is Rameshwar Sydney, 47, a cash crop farmer of Lot 232 Bush Lot Village, Corentyne.

Commander of Region Six Boodnarine Persaud yesterday confirmed that the suspect was arrested following the attack. The Commander also visited the scene yesterday and met with the relatives of the deceased.

Sydney’s sister-in-law, Asha Tomby, yesterday disclosed that the deceased, a father of five, returned home from his farm just before 13:00 hrs and was having lunch when the suspect, who resides three houses away, ventured over.

According to the woman, the suspect gaffed for a bit then requested that Sydney visit him after he was done eating so that they could “gaff by he.”

Tomby said they did not find this odd as the two men were friendly.

However, about five minutes later Sydney was seen running out of the suspect’s yard with the knife stuck in his neck after which he collapsed on the road.

He was then rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment.

Sydney’s wife, who was inconsolable at the hospital, said her husband was conscious when he collapsed on the road and as a result she was holding out hope that he would survive.

Meanwhile, residents in the area said that the suspect would often behave strangely and they claimed that sometimes he would even strip and walk naked around his yard.
