Two held after unlicensed weapon found in car on Regent St

Police on Sunday arrested two men following the discovery of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and seven matching rounds under the driver’s seat of a car in which they were on Regent Street, Georgetown.

The suspects are ages 30 and 22. They both hail from Middle Street, Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara.

According to a police report, ranks acting on intelligence received went to Regent Street between 03.45 hrs and 04.00 hrs where they intercepted motorcar, PJJ 1870 which was parked in the vicinity of Pizza Hut.

At the time, the 30-year-old suspect was in the driver seat.

“During a search of the car, the ranks unearthed a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed out along with a magazine and seven live matching rounds of ammunition under the driver’s seat,” the police said.

The two men were arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police station. They remain in custody pending further investigation.
