I am surprised no one attempted to correct the errors in Davidson’s article

Dear Editor,

Kindly spare me space in your widely read newspaper, which I have supported for decades in more than one way. The article under the headline, “New G.O.A. President, New Hope”, contained a few errors which I cannot ignore. I am surprised no one else has attempted to correct these errors since the article was published since Saturday, July 09, 2022. The first glaring error appeared in this paragraph, “And as boxing gyms disappeared which produced Parris and other pugilists who were expected to medal at the 1976 Olympics before the unfortunate boycott of the Montreal event by Guyana, Mr. Yassin kept insisting it was Government’s sole responsibility to provide facilities.” In the second paragraph of the article, it was mentioned that Michael Parris won Guyana’s first Olympic Medal more than forty years ago. Hence in the paragraph quoted above anyone would logically believe the writer is referring to Mike Parris. Editor, Evan Parris participated in the 1976 Olympics, and Mike Parris in the 1980 Olympics.

In a later paragraph of the same article it stated: “A former National Table Tennis Champion, Monroe has risen through the ranks culminating in him holding the Guyana Table Tennis Association (G.T.T.A) Presidency and an automatic representative on G.O.A, while working steadily to keep the sport viable.” Editor, being President of an Association/Federation does not mean you are automatically that entity’s representative at G.O.A. I was never President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (G.A.B. A). However this writer was the G.A.B.A’s representative at the G.O.A under the Presidency of the late Laurie Lewis. I also was the representative under Affeeze Khan and current President, Stephen Ninvalle. Anyone who the relevant Association/Federation deem knowledgeable and capable enough may be nominated to be the representative at G.O.A, and not necessarily the President. This letter is intended to separate fact from perception/opinion, I hope my letter has corrected these errors.

Sincerely,

Keith Campbell
