GBA shortlists 30 for Caribbean schoolboys tournament

Coaches and parents take note, the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has shortlisted a team of boxers for possible selection to represent Guyana at the upcoming Caribbean Schoolboys/Girls/Junior

Championship.Ahead of the event which is slated for August 19-21 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the sum of 30 boxers have been shortlisted from the Vergenoegen Boxing Gym, Young Achievers, the Forgotten Youth Foundation, Pace and Power and the Rose Hall Jammers Boxing Gym.

Pugilists named from Vergenoegen are Glaston Winter, Jemuel Jones, Keyon Britton, Markel Blue, Garvel Hyman and Jevon Anthony.

 Pace and Power Boxing Gym – Stephon Clarence and Tofina Barker (female) 

Young Achievers – Ceafa Chris, Ezekiel Bancroft, Shamaria Isaacs, Kendel Domonic and Eon Bancroft Jr.

Forgotten Youth Foundation – Tequan Sampson, Chance Niles, Shaquian James  Josiah McPherson, Seon Graham, Dwane Baptise, Yusdiel Gala  

Ross Hall Jammers – Roopesh Balgobin, Jadon Lewis, Isaiah Nurse, Shawn Sabola,Travis Sancho, Matthew Thomas, Joshua Thambarain, Arlington Johnson, Jahuan Haniff and Akhan English.

Training will commence from July 25 at 05:30hrs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and 16:00 hrs at the Andrew Lewis Boxing  gym. Training of the boxers will be conducted under the watchful eyes of coaches, Lennox Daniels, Francisco Roldan, Sebert Blake, Gregory Cort and Clifton Moore. 

Meanwhile, the fifth edition of the annual tournament is expected to see the largest amount of countries participating. The GBA was assured of teams representing Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Bahamas, St Lucia, Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada and the Cayman Islands fighting for medals and bragging rights.Formerly known as the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors, the tournament is the brainchild of President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle and was first held in 2016. Guyana has it hosted ever since and has won Champion Country on all occasions.
