Six-wicket hauls from Jonathan Rampersaud and Jeremy Sandia spun Berbice to an innings and 31-run win over Rising Stars as the Guyana Cricket Board three-day inter-county tournament clash ended yesterday at La Bonne Intention with a day to spare.

Asked to bat, Berbice posted 174 all out in 73.2 overs while Rising Stars were bundled out twice yesterday for 71 and 72 respectively.

The tall off-spinner from Portuguese Quarters, Rampersaud bagged 6-36 in Rising Stars’ first innings including the wickets of Jayden Dowlin and Avishkar Beharry off of successive deliveries to wrap up the innings.

Rampersaud Ramnauth top scored with 28 from 92 balls before falling to Rampersaud while Berbician, Sanjay Algoo, made a brisk cameo of 20 before being run out. He struck three boundaries. Ajay Gainda was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 10.

The second innings did not go so well either for Rising Stars as Sandia followed Rampersaud to bag 6-27 including the wicket of top scorer, Myheim Khan, who made 26. Algoo chipped in with 14 before being bowled by Rampersaud, but could not clear the deficit after being asked to bat once again on a day that saw 22 wickets falling.

Earlier in the Berbice innings, Rashaad Gaffor top scored with 31 from 94 balls while hitting three fours and a six before he was trapped leg before wicket to Lutesh Singh.

Gaffor shared a 41-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Romesh Bharat who made 24 from 69 balls to see Berbice close the opening day on 143 for eight.

Leon Cecil added 20 to his overnight score of three but remained unbeaten after hitting three fours. Cameos also came from Mahendra Gopilall-19, Tommani Ceasar-18, and Hemendra Gurdyal-17.

Demerara Cricket Club off-spinner, Ezekiel Wilson bagged 4-37 while Dowlin (2-16) and Algoo (2-22) supported. Rampersaud was named man of the match.

Demerara will face Essequibo from today at the same venue.
