As the Guyana Cricket Board under-19 Inter-County two-day tournament continued at La Bonne Intention, 26 wickets fell on the opening day as Demerara locked horns with Essequibo yesterday.

Asked to bat, Essequibo were routed for 70 in 35.2 overs while Demerara made 96 all out in 57.4 overs. By close of play, Essequibo were 29 for six after 23.1 overs in their second innings.

Demerara spinner, Dave Mohabir ripped through the Essequibo middle order to end with 5-16 from 10 overs including the wickets of top scorer, Ronaldo Schouten (24) and Quincy Sampson off of successive deliveries.

Mohabir was supported by Anthon Lim and Nicholas Shiopersad with two wickets each. Roy Vansluytman was left stranded on 12 not out from 49 balls while number 10 batsman, Joash Charles was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 12.

In Demerara’s innings, Charles returned to remove openers, Nicholas Rajpat and Ryan Latiff, both without scoring. Rivaldo Phillips continued his good form with a top score of 28 from 69 balls while Sachin Balgobin showed his temperament with a 117-ball 23. Shiopersad and Lim made 13 and 12 not out respectively.

Left-arm spinner, Aryan Persaud and Jarrad Allicock took three wickets each while Charles ended with 3-12 in five overs.

Allicock is currently at the crease on 10 not out. Chandrapaul Ramraj removed Shaahid Vieira and Vansluytman to close on 2-4.
