Rampersaud, Dindyal and Mohabir shine in first round matches

Jonathan Rampersaud, Mavendra Dindyal and Alvin Mohabir shone in the first round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Government of Guyana (GOG) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) sponsored Under-19 Inter-County Super-50 tournament yesterday. 

Rampersaud recorded match-winning figures of 5-28 off 9.1 overs while Dindyal (83) and Mohabir’s all-round performance of (58) and 3-23 off 6.5 overs led their respective teams to comfortable victories over Essequibo and the GCB Select XI.

At GCC, Berbice reduced Essequibo to 97 all out off 28.1 overs. Rampersaud 5-28 and Salim Khan 3-32 were the main wicket takers  for Berbice, who, in  reply, were led by the talented opening batsman Rampertab Ramnauth who top scored with 41 as the Berbicians reached 98 for the loss of four wickets inside 24 overs. Joash Charles took 2-25 and Shaazif Mohamed 2-14 bowling for Essequibo.

Result: Berbice won by six wickets.

At Everest, Demerara made an imposing 241 all out off 49 overs. Dindyal 83 off 99 balls, A. Mohabir 58 off 68 balls and Lawrence Pellew 28 were the principal batsmen. Matthew Pottya (2-35) and Chanderpaul Ramraj (2-50) were the successful bowlers for the GCB Select XI.

The GCB Select XI batsmen then fell for 91 in the 31st over in their reply. Chanderpaul Ramraj (25) and Kevin Kisten (19) were the main contributors with the bat. Krsna Singh (3-10), Rudranauth Singh (3-10) and A. Mohabir with (3-23) were the main wicket takers for Demerara.

Result: Demerara won by 150 runs. 

The GCB/GOG/MCYS Under-19 Inter-County Super-50 Tournament will continue tomorrow with Demerara playing Berbice at GCC while the GCB Select XI will face Essequibo at Everest. The third and final round will be played on Sunday, with Demerara versus Essequibo at Everest and Berbice playing the GCB Select XI at Enmore. Live streaming will be done at one venue for each round of the GCB/GOG/MCYS Under-19 Inter-County Super-50 tournament.
