The date is July 30, 2022, the island is Barbados, the venue is the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and Guyana’s national anthem is playing.

The bodybuilding fans, officials and athletes at the venue are all standing in awe and appreciation as the statuesque Rosanna Fung is crowned the overall winner of this year’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Wellness category.

It is the proudest moment for the 22-year-old who owned the stage and elegantly posed and strutted her way to earn the coveted ‘Pro card’ in just her second appearance at the flagship regional bodybuilding and fitness championship.

En route to earning pro status, Fung, a  personal trainer, won the Junior wellness class, the open wellness class and the overall title, three gold medals in a dominant display of aesthetics, beauty, style and grace.

Her profound performance was historic as she became the second female from Guyana and the first since 1979 to become a professional bodybuilding athlete.

Below is a Q and A with IFBB Elite Pro, Rosanna Fung

Q: Describe the feeling you felt as the national anthem was playing after earning the coveted pro card…

A: “In all honesty considering I didn’t expect to make pro at my first ever show in the wellness category and much less still as a junior, I’m gassed. I remember them calling my number for the pro and looking over at my competitor thinking it was her then they called my name and every single cell in my body exploded with excitement. My head floated up into the clouds and my eyes were flooded with tears as they played our national anthem. I tried hold myself back from crying my eyes out considering the show was broadcasted live and I’m not the most attractive crier, but I couldn’t help it. I remember telling myself over and over in my head, I DID IT, I WON, I’M A PRO.”

Q: What has the support and reception been like since receiving IFBB elite pro status?

A: “Overwhelming to say the least, in just this past week I have met with two highly influential government officials with very promising outcomes for the future.”

Q: What is next on the agenda in terms of appearances, shows, outreaches etc.?

A: My main goal for the next competition season is going to be the Arnold Classic and the IFBB Elite Pro World Championships, however I will be doing a few other pro shows leading up to those two. Being a new pro I will be making a guest appearance at seniors in December and I have a few outreaches that are currently in the planning phases.”

Fung concluded by thanking her friends, family, clients and sponsors for their support in order for her to achieve the title of IFBB ELITE PRO.
