Taylor shine as Amazon Warriors play unbeaten

(CMC) – Guyana Amazon Warriors exited day one with a spotless record after winning both of their outings in the inaugural Women’s Sixty at Warner Park.

Playing yesterday, Amazon Warriors defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by 15 runs in game two before returning to beat Barbados Royals by five wickets in the final game.

Earlier, Royals opened their account with a comfortable 28-run victory over TKR.

Former West Indies Women’s captain Stafanie Taylor made her presence felt for Amazon Warriors in both their victories. In game two, the right-hander struck 29 and fellow Jamaican Rashada Williams, 24, as Amazon Warriors tallied 81 for two from their ten overs.

Williams put on 29 for the first wicket with Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu (21) before adding a further 37 for the second wicket with Taylor who lashed a four and two sixes in an 18-ball cameo.

In reply, Kycia Knight top-scored with 22 but fast bowler Shamalia Connell stalled the innings with two for 17 to finish with Player-of-the-Match honours.

Taylor was among the runs again later, top-scoring with an unbeaten 33 from 24 balls to help Amazon Warriors overhaul their target of 59 with two overs to spare.

She struck four fours and a six, adding 57 in an unbroken second wicket stand with Williams (22 not out). South African Chloe Tryon had earlier struck 24 from 17 balls to follow up her half-century in the day’s opener, as Royals were dismissed for 58 in the final over.

Seamer Cherry-Ann Fraser was superb with three for six from her two overs. Tryon starred for Royals in the first game of the morning, lashing 63 from 29 deliveries to lift her side to 108 for four off their allotted ten overs.

She counted five fours and four sixes while putting on 75 for the first wicket with Britney Cooper (18) to pull the innings around from 15 for two in the second over. In reply, TKR got 22 from Hayley Jensen and 21 from Kycia Knight but could only muster 80 for three.
