Visitors now able to use licence from country of residence to drive here

With effect from today, a new regulation has been issued under The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act allowing visitors to use valid drivers’ licences from their country of  residence to drive here.

This was announced on Facebook yesterday by President Irfaan Ali.

“If you do not live in Guyana and have a valid (driver’s) licence from another country, you can drive a vehicle using that licence for 60 days from date of entry.”

According to the new regulation, the person must also have the necessary documents that show the date they entered Guyana.
