Mara Police Station reopened after 10 years

After being closed for more than ten years, the Mara Police Station, East Bank Berbice was yesterday reopened.

 In a ceremony attended by residents and several of the donors, the station which took about five weeks of continuous renovation works to complete was officially reopened by Regional Chairman David Armogan; Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Operations’ (ag.)  Ravindradat Budhram and Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud.

Commander of Region 6, Persaud who initiated the rehabilitation of the station, in his brief remarks said that the dilapidated building was completely renovated at a cost of $2.3 million – in the form of raw materials, all donated by several business persons in the Region and with much needed support from the Force’s Administration and Regional Officials and residents.  Persaud also highlighted that about 90% of the works were done by the ranks from the Division’s Construction Section, a release from the police said. Budhram in his remarks praised the collaborative effort between the police, the residents of Mara and members of the Corporate Sector, who were instrumental in the resuscitation of the station. Budhram allocated a pick-up to the station so that ranks can conduct patrols and tend to reports.
