Information to one media house was deliberately withheld

Dear Editor,

One story two different reporting, on the matter of government’s assistance to windstorm victims. One headline proclaims ‘Windstorm victims say assistance promised by CDC’. (SN September 8) with announcement of its ‘intention to assist’ residents affected in the two ECD villages.  Further, attempts by the media organization to solicit a comment from the CDC was met with an indifferent response. Meanwhile, another media organization headlines that residents who suffered in one of the affected villages gets assistance from government (GDN), with a team from CDC accompanied by a number of ministers visiting the community on Wednesday afternoon. The different reporting suggests that information to the former media house was deliberately withheld.  If this is so, how come and what purpose does this serve?

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
