RDC honours top Region Two NGSA, CSEC students

Region Two’s Regional Democratic Council (RDC) on Wednesday presented plaques and cash awards to top performers at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

The regional award ceremony, organised by the Department of Education, was held on Wednesday in the boardroom of the RDC.

Receiving awards for the NGSA examinations were  Ziyaad Ally, of Aurora Primary, Sarah Baharally, of Suddie Primary, Romir Chetram, of C V Nunes Primary, Garfield Bryan of Taymouth Manor, Narendra Persaud of Taymouth Manor, Adrian Amsterdam of C V Numes Primary, Amaria Kwang of Good Hope Primary, Darshinie Jadoo of Taymouth Manor Primary, Arianna Courtman and Mahish Persaud of Taymouth Manor.

Those honoured for the CSEC examinations were Ramoll Banolall, Ultam Heeralall, Daniel Dowding, Chavelle Solomon, Eshika Singh, Manisha Bhimranie, Pauline Forde, Satrupa Persaud, Aryan Doodnauth, Shoaib Harron, Nevarshanie Ramlakhan, Devina Persaud, Bibi Falesha Hakim, Areera Griffith, Karishma Lall, Heema Madho, Keira Mahadeo, Punesha Ramjit, Shahid Alli, Shania Hoyte, Nanda Persaud and Jeevanjale Rooplall. 

The top students at the NGSA and CSEC each received $100,000 each while the second, third, fourth and fifth received $50,000 each.

‘Proud’

Regional Chairperson Vilma De Silva said that the region is proud of the students’ performances and she urged them to continue to pursue their studies. She also told them to ensure that they use technology wisely and to invest their energies in things that are beneficial to them. 

De Silva also mentioned that the current government is investing heavily in the education sector to ensure that children’s lives improve.

Regional Education Officer Shondelle Hercules said that the children performed well despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that there have been tremendous improvements in learners’ performances in the region. 

Hercules said that the overall pass rate of students passing subjects with grades 1 to 3 for Anna Regina Secondary was 89.05 per cent, Abram Zuil Secondary 89 per cent, Charity Secondary 52.18 per cent, 8th of May Secondary 26.8 per cent, Johanna Cecelia Secondary 55.3 per cent, Cotton Field Secondary 44.07 per cent, and Wakapoa Secondary 43 per cent. 

The top performing student at CSEC Ramoll Baboolall thanked the RDC for recognising the efforts of all the performers. Baboolall also thanked the regional administration for the kind of motivation that was given. 

The top performer of the NGSA Ziyaad Ally of Aurora Primary also extend gratitude to the RDC for recognizing the pupils’ efforts.
