Kaieteur Attack Racing, Team United to host ‘Fireworks’ Golden Mile, criterium races

The nation’s best bikers and road runners will take centre stage tomorrow in a fusion of cycling and athletics.

The Irving Street/Vlissengen Road circuit outside Base Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown, will be a hive of activity when Kaieteur Attack Racing and Team United host the ‘Fireworks’ Golden Mile and criterium races.

Set for a 16:00hrs start, the first ‘crit’ event will see cyclists in the junior, veteran and female categories racing for 45 minutes. The senior riders will then take to their saddles to compete for one hour and 15 minutes.

The top three wheelsmen in the senior category will pocket $50,000, $35,000 and $20,000, while the fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers will ride home with $10,000 apiece.

Jamual John, Paul DeNobrega, Romello Crawford, Briton John, Curtis Dey, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green, Christopher Griffith, and Kemuel Moses, are some of the big names set to compete for top honours.

Tomorrow’s senior race will be followed by the Golden Mile, tentatively set for an 18:00hrs start. Road running standouts, Marlon Nicholson, Cleveland Thomas, Winston Missigher, Kennard Hartog, and others, have signalled their intention to face the starter’s gun.

The podium dwellers will run off with $20,000, $18,000, and $15,000 respectively.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Guyana Cancer Society.
