Two vendors arrested after gun, ammo found in shoulder bag

Two persons were arrested by the police after they were found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm yesterday.

In a statement, the police said that Melissa Dundas, a 33-year-old vendor of Stevedore Housing Scheme and Anthony Mosley, a 45-year-old vendor of Queen Street, South Cummingsburg were in a taxi which was flagged down by Police ranks on Mandela Avenue. The duo, who were seated in the back seat, were asked to exit the taxi. The driver was also asked to exit the vehicle which was then searched but nothing of evidential value was found.

A search was then conducted on the occupants of the said motorcar and a grey one strap shoulder bag which Dundas had in her possession. A silver and black hand gun suspected to be a .32 Taurus pistol and a magazine containing fifteen .32 live matching rounds were found in the handbag.

A female rank asked Dundas if she is a licensed firearm holder and she said no. She claimed that she took the gun from Anthony and put it in her bag.

The duo were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and then escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station.

Investigations are in progress.
