Alimohamed hits ton, Sankar takes five-for

The Georgetown Cricket Association GISE/ Star Party Rentals/ Trophy Stall first-division, two-day clash between Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ended in a draw yesterday.

With rain soaking up most of the contest, it was still enough time for GCC’s Ronaldo Alimohamed to score a century as his side got to 303 for nine in 80 overs with DCC’s Steven Sankar taking five wickets. DCC then closed on 81 for one after just eight overs.

Resuming day two on 127 for three, Zachary Jodah departed 10 balls into the day without adding to his overnight score of three as he was caught behind the stumps by Joshua Persaud off of Sankar.

The legspinner in his following over then accounted for Navindra Persaud who converted his overnight score of 39 to 42 from 127 balls before being caught and bowled. He stroked five boundaries. Sankar also picked up the wickets of Timothy McAlmont (09) and Devon Lord (05) to end with 5-94 from 26 overs.

However, with the fall of those wickets, Alimohamed showed his ability to convert to the longer format but was free enough to express his brutality by hitting seven sixes and nine fours on his way to 104 not out form 112 balls.

The national all-rounder added 74 runs for the eighth wicket with Carlos La Rose who made 29 from 50 balls. His innings featured four fours and a six before he was bowled by Trevon Garraway.

Alimohamed then shared a 45-run union for the ninth wicket with Bernard Bailey who smacked two sixes and a four on his way to 22 from 28.

In DCC’s first innings, Joshua Persaud slapped seven boundaries during a 22-ball 38 where he added 61 for the opening wicket with Peter Perez before he was stumped off of Lord. Perez also raced to 35 not out from 17 balls, hitting two sixes and three fours along the way.

Sachin Singh was also not out on six by the close of the day’s play.
