Two East Bank men detained for giving false info to Police

The police say that at around 16:40 hrs yesterday, a 35-year-old mason of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and a 25-year-old labourer of Golden Grove, EBD, went into the Grove Police Station and reported that they were robbed by six men on bicycles, armed with knives at Friendship, EBD.

According to the 35-year-old mason, he was robbed of $125,000 cash, property of his employer. He also reported that he lost one red Samsung A3 cellphone, valued $45,000.

The 25-year-old labourer reported he was robbed of his cellphone value $32,000, a wallet valued $5000 and containing $1000 cash, his national identification card and other documents.

The police said that both men were interviewed by ranks of the Grove Police Station and CID during which it was suspected their report was false.

As a result, a search was carried out on their respective haversacks and during this the aforementioned items which they claimed they were robbed of were found therein.

They were both told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and placed into custody.
