Five held after ganja found in vehicles on Mandela Ave

Five men were arrested on Tuesday following the discovery of several parcels of narcotics in two motor vehicles on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

In a press release today, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said ranks conducted an operation on Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of Trench Road during which two motor vehicles were intercepted.

The vehicles were driven by Franklin Beresford, 33 of 55 D’Urban Street, Lodge and Shawn Welch, 48 of Castello Housing Scheme, La Penitence.

A search was carried out on motor vehicles, PZZ 3119 and PAC 8606 in the presence of the drivers and the narcotics were unearthed, CANU said.

Motor vehicle, PZZ 3119 contained six parcels of narcotics weighing 19.4 kilogrammes while PAC 8606 had one parcel of narcotics weighing 522 grammes.

Both men were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters where the suspected narcotics tested positive for cannabis.

Further investigations were carried out during which the three other suspects who have been identified as Shem Rishton, Kevin Barrow and Quincy Punch were arrested, CANU said.

Investigations are ongoing.
