It is nearly six years since I have exited the media, however, I have managed to stay abreast with current affairs and though there has been a change in administration within the Guyana Cricket Board [GCB] I still question whether decisions over at the Regent Road office continues to be blatantly politicized. Lately some of the GCB’s actions ponders me and this is of utmost importance because I believe that dysfunctions at any territorial board of Cricket West Indies contributes to poor performance by the Regional Board. Therefore there must be accountability and/or detail explanation to stakeholders and fans in regards to the daily operations.
Like in the case of the Audit Value for Money where the GCB sought transparency in the financial operations of the Berbice Cricket Board. Such lucidity must not be convenient, thus the GCB must answer why the Upper Demerara Cricket Association as part of their development, recently received gears in May 2022 to the value of $800,000 https://m.facebook.com/newsroomgy/posts/3525998387677169/?locale=ne_NP but could not complete the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) tournament that is being used to select players to represent Demerara in the upcoming GCB inter county under 16 competition. Further, it is ironic that the BCB is targeted for Audit when the records show that the Berbice Board has been the main supplier of players to the National teams.
Additionally, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) is the only association within the DCB that is actively coordinating and executing cricket development programs and tournaments. In addition despite Georgetown’s dominance no technical personnel from the GCA has been appointed to coach any Demerara Youth teams although they have won all inter-association tournaments held by the DCB.
