Den Amstel won the Region #3 Zone title in the ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship on Wednesday evening, overcoming traditional rival Uitvlugt by a 2-0 scoreline at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

The opening period failed to separate the two teams, as physical play was the primary highlight resulting in a scoreless affair heading into the halftime interval. However, the sizable gathering would not be disappointed in the second stanza, as Den Amstel broke the deadlock.

Reuben Dainty made his presence felt, as he scored in the 56th minute, directing his effort into the far corner to ignite celebrations in the stands. On the other side, Uitvlugt’s attempts to fashion the equaliser were thwarted by robust defending from the Den Amstel backline.

The contest was essentially sealed in the 90th+2 minute as Andre Hector scored, converting from the penalty spot into the right corner following an infraction inside the area.

Meanwhile, Pouderoyen clinched the third position, defeating Stewartville 4-1.

The rout commenced in the first minute, as Kenaz Stephens found the back of the net. Intercepting an errant pass from the backline following a collective high press, Stephens uncorked a powerful volley that nestled into the back of the net from inside the penalty area.

Devin Gaskin then made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Dexroy Adams was the architect of the aforementioned conversion, dribbling his marker on the left flank, before initiating a through pass into the path of Gaskin, who thumped his effort into the back of the net.  Adams got into the scoring act in the 45th minute to make it 3-0. Receiving a pass from the midfield area, Adams upon cutting into the area, dribbled past the right-back before slotting the ball through the legs of the advancing goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Stewartville eventually reduced the deficit to 3-1, as David Chester scored. It was a conversion which emanated from an initial Pouderoyen corner-kick, as Chester slotted across the body of the goalkeeper to complete a swift counterattack. However, the conversion proved to be a minor blip for Pouderoyen, as EJ Mars etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 81st minute.

Mars dribbled past his marker after receiving a pass before slamming his powerful effort past the goalkeeper at the near post in the 81st minute.

The association will now select the team that will compete in the regional section of the tournament.
