National Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships

The cyclists from District 10 tallied 245 points to earn the winner’s trophy. 

Surprisingly close on their wheel were the riders of  District 7 (Bartica) who racked up 228 points afters two exciting days of racing on Sunday and Monday.

The last time ‘Nationals’ was staged in 2019, District 6 emerged winners, this year they had to settle for a third place finish with 204 points. District 13 (133 points) and District 11 (97 points) completed the top five.

Spencer was flawless in her victories, throttling to wins in each of her four starts including the Girls Open 25km road race on Sunday morning on the outer circuit of the National Park. The 19 year-old who attends the Linden Technical Institute, then took her talents inside the park on Monday and convincingly won the Girls Open 

Meanwhile, completing the points table were District 4 (81 points), District 5 (75 points), District 12 (70 points), District 3 (52 points), District 15 (50 points), District 14 (39 points), District 2 (27 points) and District 8 (15 points).

District One and District 9 both finished without points.

The 60th edition of the event continues today at the National Track and Field Centre at Edinburg from 09:00hrs. The blue riband 100m races and the 800m finals are set to highlight the day’s activities.
