Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival underway at CASH

GBTI, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Woodpecker Hikers, Queens Park, and Old Fort, recorded victories when the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival commenced yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

In the Women’s section, GBTI GCC crushed Trinidad and Tobago Police Service 7-0. Sonia Jardine recorded a brace in the 15th and 28th minute, while Gabriella Xavier bagged a double in the 23rd and 38th minute. Supporting with goals in the ninth, 18th, and 20th minute apiece were Sarah Klautky, Vanessa Pires, and Abosaide Cadogan. 

Continuing in the same division, Woodpecker Hikers edged Old Fort 3-2. Maria Munroe, Clayza Bobb, and Latacia Chung, scored in the 18th, 26th, and 29th minute respectively. On target for the losers was Julia Govia in the 20th and 34th minute.

In the Over-35 division, Queen’s Park downed Antonio’s Hikers 7 – 4. Jerazeno Bell bagged a helmet trick in the third, 10th, 12th, and 25th minute. Adding goals in the 11th, 14th, and 28th minute respectively were Nicholas Wren, Rigel Gomes, and Darren Cowle.

In the Over-45 section, Old Fort Legends crushed GCC Vintage 6-3. Roger Daniel scored in the fifth, eighth, 14th, and 21st minute while Dexter Wyles and John Abrahams scored in the 24th and 29th minute apiece.

The tournament, will conclude on Sunday at the same venue. Winner of the Men’s and Women’s section respectively will walk away with US$2,500 respectively, with the respective runners-up receiving US$1000. The eventual victors of the Veterans Over-35 and Over-45 divisions will pocket US$1000. Up to press time, the remaining matches were underway.
