GTI wins Titan Bowl, UG clinches Tertiary Knockout Championship

Government Technical Institute (GTI) on Monday evening, won the Titan Bowl, while the University of Guyana (UG) clinched the Tertiary Knockout Championship.

This was disclosed by an official release from the tournament coordinators, Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG).

In the Titan Bowl, GTI downed Aroaima 76-68 in extra time in the championship match. Martin Edwards led the eventual victors with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, though Rescan Barnwell was the top scorer with 14 points.

Supporting with 12 points was Daniel Howell, whilst Kofi Hassanah and Jayden Jones added 11 points and six rebounds apiece.

For the loser, Kelon Phillips, who was eventual adjudged the division’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), battled to an impressive haul of 39 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals, while Kasim English supported with 17 points, seven steals and five rebounds.

Meanwhile in the Tertiary Knockout Championship, UG edged the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) 61-60 in the final. Alroy Nurse bagged a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Jushawn Bayley chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds. Supporting with 10 points and eight rebounds was Jether Harris.

For the loser, Charles Williams, who was also adjudged the MVP of the section, recorded 26 points and six rebounds, with Richard Semple tallying 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Joshua Thompson amassing 13 points, four rebounds and as many steals.
