KFC sponsored football action continues today at Providence

The 3rd edition of the KFC Goodwill Schools Football Series which commenced on Thursday at the National Training Centre, Providence, will resume today at the same venue with another doubleheader.

In the opening match at 14.00 hours, St. Benedict of Trinidad and Tobago will oppose Golden Grove. Meanwhile, the second match will pit Christianburg/Wismar against SVB of Suriname from 16.00 hours. On Monday at the same venue, St. Benedict will lock horns with DC Caesar Fox at 14.00 hours, with Annai Secondary facing off against SVB Academy at 16.00 hours.

On the opening day of the championship, DC Caesar Fox of Region Seven crushed East Coast Demerara outfit, Golden Grove 6-0, whilst defending champion Annai Secondary of Region Nine, and Milo and GuyOil winner Christianburg/Wismar of Linden battled to a 2-2 stalemate.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of tournament coordinator, the Petra Organization, said, “As usual the interior teams have given a good account for themselves, and today the two foreign teams will be action and I am eager in anticipation of witnessing what they bring to the tournament.”

The six competing teams will initially contest a round-robin stage round comprising two zones of three. Group-A comprises newcomer St. Benedict College of Trinidad and Tobago, Golden Grove, and DC Caesar Fox (formerly Waramadong).

Group-B consists of GuyOil League winner, Christianburg/Wismar, Annai Secondary and SVB Academy of Suriname. At the conclusion of the group round, the top two finishers in each pool will advance to the semi-final section.

The other sponsors of the tournament include Tiger Rentals Guyana, Trophy Stall, Guyana Beverage Incorporated, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
