Norton says will soon name new party General Secretary

Leader of the PNCR, Aubrey Norton says he will soon name a General Secretary for the party. The position has been vacant for over a month following the resignation of Geeta Chandan-Edmond.

According to Norton, he has consulted with a number of persons within the party and has made a decision. However, he refrained from releasing the name of the individual chosen as Chandan-Edmond’s replacement.

“I have consulted with many persons and arrived at a position on who will be the next General Secretary… We will do a formal [announcement] and I want the person to be here when we make the announcement,” the Party Leader said at a press conference yesterday.

Party sources confirmed that Chandan-Edmond had resigned effective December 14, 2022, after a leave of absence. Norton had appointed her to serve as General Secretary of the PNCR on January 3, 2022 following the party’s congress.   Chandan-Edmond is a former AFC member but joined the PNCR a few years ago and was elected to the Central Executive at last year’s Congress.

However, she remains a member of the party and a functioning Member of Parliament for the opposition APNU+AFC.

Meanwhile, Norton disclosed that the Central Executive Committee will next week deliberate on the resignation and the withdrawal of the resignation submitted by Treasurer Faaiz Mursaline.

Two days ago, Mursaline in a Facebook post informed party supporters that he has returned to the post.

“I’m glad to be back as Treasurer of this great party, I wish to inform PNCR supporters and members the many challenges we face as party leaders doesn’t have an easy impact on our political career and party,” he said.

He had told this newspaper, his resignation had nothing to do with party politics, and explained that he felt he needed to step back and focus on his personal life.
