Three persons including a Special Constable were arrested on Friday night following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and several rounds of ammunition in the motor car in which they were in at Versailles Public Road, West Bank Demerara.

The police yesterday said the discovery was made around 23:45 hours after a search was conducted on a white Toyota Raum motor car, bearing registration number, PNN 6297.

At the time, the 28-year-old Special Constable of Pouderoyen, WBD was the driver. There were two other occupants in the back seat of the vehicle; a 30-year-old salesman and his 22-year-old girlfriend.

According to a police report, a Sergeant stopped the vehicle and informed the occupants that he had received information that they had guns and ammunition in their possession and he would like to carry out a search.

The occupants had no objections, the police said.

“On the floor of the vehicle behind the driver seat was one bulky black shoulder bag which, when inspected, had one suspected Smith and Wesson 9 mm pistol without serial number, containing three live matching rounds,” the report explained.

The Sergeant then enquired from the occupants whether any of them is a licensed firearm holder and they responded in the negative.

As a result, they were arrested and escorted to the Parfaite Harmonie police station pending further investigation.

The suspects has since denied having any knowledge of the firearm and ammunition, the police said.
